The macOS Sierra 10.12 release brought a number of great features. One of the most useful new features is the tabs feature in many of the stock Mac apps, such as Maps, Safari, and more. The feature allows users to manage multiple windows of information without cluttering their desktop.

Enabling Tabs in macOS Apps
- All apps have a tab bar now, but not all apps make use of the feature yet. To see if an app has a use for tabs, enable the tab bar first. Then, see what you can do with it. Open the app you want to use. Select Show Tab Bar. If an app makes use of a tab, you'll see a plus (+) next to the tab bar, indicating you can create a new tab.

Note: You will need macOS 10.12 or later for this to work. We’ll be using the Maps app for this how to, but tabs work the same in any tabs-enabled apps. In addition to Apple apps like Safari, Maps, Text Edit, Pages, and others, third-party apps are also adding support for the feature. Be sure to contact the developer of your favorite Mac app about adding tabs support to their apps.

1.) Open the Maps app.
2.) Click the “View” menu in the Maps Menu Bar. Click “Show Tab Bar.”
4.) Open a new Maps tab by clicking the File menu and then clicking “New Tab.” (You can also use the keyboard to open a new tab by pressing the “Command + T” key combo.)
5.) If you have multiple map windows open, click the “Windows” menu item, and then click “Merge All Windows.” This will place the open Map windows into tabs in one window. You can also drag each window onto the tab bar to merge them one-by-one.
Each tab in Maps can hold it’s own unique location, maps, directions and other map details. You can flip between tabs by pressing the “Control + Tab” key combo, or by clicking the tab with your mouse. Square up mac app.

Enter Split View

Split View requires OS X El Capitan or later, and the steps differ slightly based on which macOS you're using. https://partclever.weebly.com/blog/photos-app-mac-not-importing. If these steps don't work, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Mission Control, and make sure that “Displays have separate Spaces” is selected.
macOS Catalina
- Hover your pointer over the full-screen button in the upper-left corner of a window. Or click and hold the button.
- Choose ”Tile Window to Left of Screen” or ”Tile Window to Right of Screen” from the menu. The window then fills that side of the screen.
- Click a window on the other side of the screen to begin using both windows side by side.
Other macOS versions
- Click and hold the full-screen button in the upper-left corner of a window.
- As you hold the button, the window shrinks and you can drag it to the left or right side of the screen.
- Release the button, then click a window on the other side of the screen to begin using both windows side by side.
Work in Split View
In Split View, you can use both apps side by side, without the distraction of other apps.
- Choose a window to work in by clicking anywhere in that window.
- Show the menu bar by moving the pointer to the top of the screen.
- Swap window positions by dragging a window to the other side.
- Adjust window width by dragging the vertical line between the windows.
- Switch to other apps or your desktop with Mission Control, or use a Multi-Touch gesture such as swiping left or right with four fingers on your trackpad.
Exit Split View

- Move the pointer to the top of the screen to reveal the window buttons.
- Click the full-screen button in either window. That window exits Split View.
- The other window switches to full-screen view. You can switch to the full-screen window with Mission Control, or use a Multi-Touch gesture such as swiping left or right with four fingers on your trackpad.
